Beloved Brother, Uncle & Friend

Thomas H. Hayes, 72, of Verona, New Jersey - "Go to work, do your best, Be Prepared, and you will sleep well at night." These are the words that Tom lived by and who on Friday, May 3, 2019 went to sleep eternal. He peacefully passed at The Chelsea of Montville with his loving family at his side.

Tom was born at Mountainside Hospital in Glen Ridge, NJ to James Decker and Carolyn May (Heydecke) Hayes. He was raised in Verona along with his two brothers, Jeff and Don. The family was active in Scouting and Tom along with his brothers achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Verona High School and from Montclair State University.

Mr. Hayes worked his entire life at Mountainside Hospital, where he was born. He was an Interventional Radiological Technician and retired as the Assistant Chief of Radiology.

Tom was very close to his family and enjoyed time spent with them at their homes in New Jersey and in the summer months in Northern Pennsylvania.

Surviving are his devoted brothers and their wives, James "Jeff" and Michelle Hayes and Donald and Janis Hayes; loving niece, Stacy (Joseph) Przybylinski and nephew, Steven Hayes. Tom was predeceased by his niece, Susan Hayes and nephew, Michael Hayes.

Please join the family as they celebrate Tom's life as relatives and friends visit with the family on Monday, May 6th from 4-8 pm the Codey & Jones Funeral Home, 54 Roseland Avenue, Caldwell, NJ 07006 and on Tuesday, May 7th at 11:00 with a service presided over by his a childhood friend and fellow Eagle Scout, Rev. James Thyren. The interment will follow at Mount Hebron Cemetery in Montclair, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Alzheimer's New Jersey, 425 Eagle Rock Ave #203, Roseland, NJ 07068 (www.alznj.org) in memory of Tom would be deeply appreciated.
